Hi all! I just wanted to have my goals in writing... Hope you don't mind helping me be accountable for them!
1. I want to lose 117 lbs. total. I have lost 17 lbs. as of 10/31/11 so I think I am working that goal!!!
2. I will continue to eat on track with my diet plan (Atkins). But if I fall, I will dust of my knees and get back up!
3. I will exercise. By that, I don't mean I will spend 30 minutes convincing myself to do it and 15 minutes actually doing it. I mean I will exercise AT LEAST 30 minutes a day.
And finally...
4. I will waer a bathing suit without a skirt by summer 2012!

Today is November 1. This month is always so special to me because of my grandmother. She was the kindest and sweetest person I have even known and I am not just saying that because she is my grandmother. She developed Alzheimer's late in her life and as it advanced, we lost more of her every day. I have so many favorite memories of her, but the one that was personalized just for me shows how loving and accepting she was. At 18, I found out I was pregnant... "Unplanned" is not the word for it! I dreaded telling my mom, but it was my grandfather (my only father-figure) I hated to disappoint more than anything. My mom held my hand while he ranted and raved about how irresponsible I was and how was I going to cope, etc. All of a sudden, my grandmother had a moment if lucidity. She interrupted my grandfather and said "Now Harry, she's not the first and she won't be the last." We were speechless because this is the woman who forgot how to feed herself, bathe herself and even how to walk. She then proceeded to stand up and take off her underwear and use it as a cap. :)
With all that said, my gransmother passed away the day after Thanksgiving in 1999. Since then, I use the month of November as my personal "Pay It Forward" month. I typically try to log in over 100 volunteer hours, do five random acts of kindess each day and allow myself to enjoy one much desired thing every evening. For example, I will purposefully hold doors and elevator doors open, greet each person with a smile, buy the person behind me their breakfast/lunch/coffee. My proplem this year is I used to indulge in flavorful, calorie-rich treats. But since I have started Atkins three (3) weeks ago, I am extremely limited. I started a list of new experiences, but am running out of options.
Some of the things I will do for myself include:
sitting under the stars and marvel
singing at the top of my lungs despite my childrens protests
taking a 10-minute power nap behind locked bedroom doors
Any ideas of pleasurable, non-food treats?
