On December 5th I am running a 5K to support Safe Passage which is a community organization in Massachusetts providing shelter, counseling, and advocacy services to women and children who have experienced domestic violence.
The run is called the Hot Chocolate Run and everyone gets a mug of hot chocolate in a souvenir mug for participating.
It is also a fundraising event and I'm going to shamelessly promote it here hoping to get a few donations.
If you would like to donate:
Hot Chocolate Run for Safe Passage
Thank you!

I made stuffed tomatoes tonight! They were delicious.
I made some tilapia too just in case they bombed.
Artichokes on the menu tomorrow (if I have time before trivia) or Wednesday.
I'm trying to cook more and try new things.

Download this e-book. I just started reading it and I'm finding it to be quite funny. I haven't gotten to the good stuff, but even the intro has me chuckling a little bit.

This week has been never ending. A Friday has never been more welcome than it is today.
I'm participating in the Greenway Challenge tomorrow with my boyfriend, my dad and a few other people that I'll be meeting tonight at our pre-race dinner meeting. Aaron is running and my dad and I are biking. My dad has practiced his portion of the course and is doing pretty well with it. I went for a short ride to Aaron's work on Monday to make sure I still knew how to ride a bike (even though they say you never forget) and I found it pretty enjoyable. Wednesday I tried to do my 20.8mile portion of the challenge and I had to give up about 12.5 miles in. I felt so defeated and as I was waiting on the side of the road in the middle of who-knows-what town I was freaking out about being able to hold my own for the challenge.
Turns out that the entire time I was riding (all 12.5 miles) the break was rubbing on the wheel. I was putting in so much extra effort on every hill and even the straightaways. I'm glad there was a reason I couldn't complete the whole course, but I still feel pretty stupid about the whole thing. I think the wheel was fine on Monday for my first ride, but I probably messed something up when I had to take the front wheel off to fit it in the car to get home. My dad used to work on bikes so he's going to take a look at it tonight and I hope he can fix whatever the problem is and I hope I won't have an issue with the course on Saturday. I am a little bummed that I didn't get a full practice ride in though.
I've been taking it easy on the running (meaning I haven't done any since Saturday) because my knee wasn't feeling to great and it feels like it is somewhat out of place. I'm going to try a short run Sunday morning and see how I do.
After this weekend I'm still on kind of an endorphin high and work has just been sludge all week. I want to do more stuff outside and enjoy the waning days of warmish weather. I really dislike winter and I'm not ready for sweaters and any shoes that don't expose my toes. I want to move somewhere warm and sunny, but I know I'd probably hate the summers.
I'm in a walking challenge at work. We wear pedometers all day. It's interesting to see how many steps you walk in just daily activities. I've been converting my bike rides to steps too and it's like 14000! I don't know if my group will win, but it's kinda fun anyway.

The race was amazing. It was hard and I've never been more sore and tired but we had such a great time.
I slept when we got home Saturday night, but prior to that we had about 7 hours of sleep for Thursday night through to Saturday. I think that was the most difficult thing.
I slept in the Van for an hour or two while we were waiting for runners and we slept on the floor of a school in the hallways for a few hours but it was never really enough.
The weather was great for the second half of the team (which I was thankfully a part of) and the scenery in New Hampshire is just amazing. I ran faster than I ever have before. I was under 10:30 for all of my runs and my second run I even managed a 9:44 pace! My first run was killer, I psyched myself up for the hills but it was so difficult. I ended up averaging 10:02 and I have no idea how but I'm proud.
I would definitely do something like this again. My teammates were wonderful and I hope I made some lasting friendships from this all. Nothing says bonding like 36 hours in a van together.
All twelve of us:
