Good morning,
I just joined this app last weekend. I’m Rachael. 57. I’m trying to lose 20 pounds and gain muscle. I want to be a fit grandma. 😂. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to lose the post menopausal weight gain. I’m cutting processed foods, white bread, sugar, white flour, most salt, most dairy and most oil. I’ve been keeping calories under 1200, some days under 800. Very little progress. I was doing Weight Watchers but it did not mesh with my psychology. I’m looking for easy, but tasty, plant based meals though I have been eating chicken and fish. I really wish I loved salad…. I really don’t but I am open to non traditional salad ideas. Anyone have any favorite clean eating recipes that don’t require exotic ingredients and tons of prep?

Hello Rahel. Look around and see what people eat. There are many different approaches here. Do you like beans in your salads? I also recommend some exercise if you do not already do that.

You might want to add more calories to your day. 1200 may not be enough. To lose weight sometimes you need to eat more. Sounds ridiculous but it’s true. Do t starve yourself. Look into how many calories you should be consuming. Hope you figure it out!

I highly encourage you to watch Mind Pump Body on YouTube, or you can listen to their podcast. You are most likely not eating enough calories. I know that can be difficult to hear, but these guys are very compassionate, well-educated, and have all been personal trainers for a VERY long time. They really go into this concept quite often and explain it really well and are entertaining. I hope this helps

If you like vegetables, most are great tossed in a bit of olive oil (1 tbsp is usually enough) & roasted in the oven. A salad can be upgraded by adding anything you like....sugar snap peas, carrots, nuts (measured portions), beans, fruit, chicken, or salmon on top. Use leafy greens. Find or make a low cal vinaigrette you like & toss salad. I only use 2 Tbsp of dressing. Also, try not to go under 1200 calories.

You should probably be eating more. Too low of calories for too long tends to cause the body to hole on to fat mass while reducing lean mass (muscle). You be lighter, but also at a higher bodyfat percentage. I would suggest focusing primarily on calories and protein targets first and foremost. This is also a great article about how to set up a nutrition plan to support your goals, but f you are interested: https://www.strongerbyscience.com/diet/

I like my cheeseburger salad. Whatever you like on a cheeseburger or a grilled chicken sandwich but skip the bread. No 'weird' ingredients...just what you like. Any ssandwich can be a salad and I was amazed at how much more I could taste the ingredients when I didn't have a mouthful of bread. I also like thin sliced Italian bread. Smaller slices than regular white. On youtube, I've been watching Pahla B. She's a weight loss coach for women over 50. Nice to listen to and seems very She also wrote a book called 'Mind Over Menopause.' You might like her. Big fan of journaling.

Don't know what happened to the rest of the sentence but I was trying to say that she seems very sensible.

My go to is Big Mac salad, you can find the recipe on Pinterest, i make my own dressing with low fat mayo and sugar free ketchup, i just keep pickles and onions diced and ground turkey prepped in my fridge and if i don’t have a meal in mind I’ll eat that and it truly tastes great !

I'm 60 and have many times (over many years) lost weight on 1200 cal./day diet. I'm in process of doing it now. I like salads but def. get sick of them. I will do lettuce free with the good stuff I like, olives, grape tomatoes, pearl mozzarella, cukes etc. Assorted roasted veggies are nice (often I'll add curry). I also love an english muffin topped with smoked salmon, Neufchâtel cheese and capers. It makes a tasty breakfast!

welcome. everyone is giving great recommendations here. I wanted to add that I've found making a salad like chickpea or something and then putting it over my salad greens when I'm ready to eat helps me load up on veggies and it's satiating. I also live off of the idea that I'll eat/make do with whatever I have in my fridge at the moment. it's been surprising what I've come up with but also how creative I can be. good luck

I eat about 80% clean. I try to eat about 1200-1300 cals a day. 800 is way too low and will eventually impede your weight loss. Not sure what your RDI is. I roast alot of my vegetables in a bit of olive oil. Love things like broccoli, asparagus, sweet potato, cauliflower, and brussel sprout. I saute spinach, bok choy, with onions and garlic. Delicious! Best of luck!🩷

You’re gonna need a lot more food for muscle gains.

Welcome! 😊 I'm 49. You need to eat almost double the calories you are currently consuming, in order to lose weight and gain muscle. Once you start fueling your body properly, your body will burn fat more efficiently. Do strength training at least 3 times per week. Good luck ❤️

I appreciate everyone’s comments. I do not seem to be able to reply to individual comments. Maybe I have to upgrade to do that??
