Bad news at the eye doctor yesterday... Peter's eyes are only one step from being so bad that his driver's license will be taken away. His eyes can be corrected only to 20/40. 20/50 is when he can no longer drive. At 20/60, there is a surgical option, but our doctor warned that it is not always successful. Since he has 4 motorcycles and 2 classic cars, this is devastating news.
My eyes are much better, 20/25, although I needed a slight change in my prescription. When I asked about long driving trips, the doctor said it would be "much better" if I drove. I can't imagine Peter allowing that to happen, as I always offer, and he always refuses.
This will make a big change in our travelling plans. We hoped to do another couple of driving trips to Nova Scotia, probably one to Newfoundland, and at least one to Alberta/British Columbia and down through Washington, Oregon and California, returning through the "middle" states.
A warning to everyone... don't put off what you want to do... you may find it's too late.
Of course we can still fly to N.S., rent a car and drive around; ditto for B.C., or take the train (horrendously expensive!), but we both really love driving trips and being able to explore little roads that tours never take you on.
Discouraged today, but of course Peter doesn't want to talk about it.
