Back from my "No Carb Left Behind" Vacation...

I was in D.C. for a week, and had a fabulous vacation. I've been there before, yet this time was amazing! Saw lots of museums, got some great tours on art, sculpture, and cultures, listened to live jazz in parks and museum courtyards, checked out all the happening neighborhoods and went to a few bars, lounges, and clubs, hung out with my friend and her various friends, hung out with my sister and met her new boyfriend...and ate lots of great food! Had fusion Indian, several Thai meals, Malaysian, Spanish tapas, French brunch, etc...

Hence I'd say, lots of carbs, sodium, etc., but I wasn't gonna worry about this---I did check my weight almost daily there, and saw it steadily climb the charts...I was planning on going for a long walk every morning, and/or do my workout dvd there, but it was hard to wake up early after having stayed out late, and for some reason, I didn't feel like being disciplined about my weight loss plan there (is that a "Vacation-symptom?")...I did get a lot of walking through the sightseeing in and around the museums, and was hoping that would combat the weight gain. It did do, for a little bit, as at least I was able to wear all my clothes, and not have them look unflattering due to the high carbs/salt food I was having..

Ooh! Confession, I even ate at Dunkin' donuts one of the days (had a croissant, a donut, and hash browns!!), and on my last day I had "breakfast" at Mcdonalds at the airport (Egg and cheese on a biscuit)--skipped the hash browns then.

In the drinks department, I had a glass of wine each, on three days. A couple of glasses of sangria on two days..so, not too bad considering we went to SOOO many places, and I didn't succumb to peer pressure and have any alcohol there! Also, it was the HOTTEST weekend there--even at nights it was like 90 degrees! I was tempted to have cold beers then, but didn't have any! I wasn't very good about drinking water---I carried my bottle everywhere, but wasn't very good about replenishing it regularly. As a result, despite the heat, I had only 1-2 liters of water daily. My body didn't signal thrist either---I think it's gotten used to the reduced water intake!!! (Perhaps another reason why I gained the weight?)

Oh! another thing..I've been on a pizza-kick lately. The last day or so before leaving, I had ordered a pizza on two different days. Upon my return, I ordered another pie (a large one this time), and have finished it all!!! Since that was yesterday, it is possibly another reason I'm seeing the weight gain). Anway, I have to kick this habit---can't go back to the old ways!!! Getting it in here for the record.

Anyway, no regrets. I did what I wanted to do, and have gained 4 pounds over 9 days. So, as of today, I need to clean up act, and go back to the old system. This morning, I had an egg white omelette with cheese, and had 1 bottle of water. I'll continue to drink more water, and eat very low carbs this week...and start to workout daily. It's a little difficult to get back in the groove, but I can do it! Journaling is the first step...

I missed all my friends here...It has been the longest I went without even checking this site or getting online! Hope I was missed too! :(

Welcome back! We missed you! It sounds like a wonderful vacation - you weren't too far from me (I'm in Maryland)! I'm sure those 4 pounds will be history soon.

oooh! Amy, aren't you LUCKy to be living in Maryland? I'd love to move the D.C vicinity---there's so much to see and do, and what a fantastic energy there! Ah...someday, I hope.

It's funny, but I don't get into D.C. that often! I'm about half-way between D.C. and Baltimore, and we usually end up walking and visiting in Baltimore. But you're young and I'm old. Maybe that's the difference. :)

Welcome back. We did miss you. Sounds like you had a wonderful time on your vacation. It's hard to stay on track especially when you want to try different foods and have a couple drinks. 4 lbs. isn't bad. Now that you're back you can get on track and get rid of those extra lbs.!
