If only all days could be like today..:)

Very busy day, but rather productive, and everyone/everything behaved well!! Just the kind of emotional break one needs!

Ok, so here're the details for the record. Woke up later than I'd planned (again!), and so just in time for a quick breakfast of cereal, pick up lunch, and dash out to work. Upon reaching work, I basically ran around from lab meeting, to class, to other supervision meetings, to class prep, to second class, and finally home to rush off to the gym before it got too close to dinner-time.

I didn't get the chance to pick up my morning coffee, or drink much water until about 1 pm or so, and was really wondering if I could afford to stop for 10 mins to grab lunch, get some water, my coffee, and get late to my meeting! Deciding to do the healthy thing and at least have my salad, I get a call from my lab about another unscheduled appointment showing up! There goes my sald--postponed for another 30 mins! I finally managed to chow down the salad, grab some water and coffee to go and headed off to my meeting--a little later than planned--which in turn, made everything else late, but whatever! Dammit, my healthy choices should come first!! (So this is a change from the old me...I need to keep this up especially on crazy days like today). The latter part of the day I did well about drinking water--kept filling up my bottle on the way to the different meetings etc., and even got a bottle to drink on my way home...drank some more during and after workout (must have added to 3L and more).

Both the classes went rather well, and the kids were rather interactive and seemed to be having fun with the material--and with me!! That felt good! Everything else was lining up well too...

I managed to leave work early enough (about 6-ish), got home and went to the gym. I started my C25k program today (thanks Artisgrl and Evelyn!!). Now, my story is that I have barely been able to run all my life---if I ran to catch the bus, I'd be out of breath immediately--that's how bad it has been! I've always wanted to build my running--but have always been intimated by those scary runners who go for miles!!

Never thought I can actually build up to that...but this C25k program gives me hope!! What an awesome idea, and what a great find!! It's structered, programmed with music, and totally burns those calories!! Today's program entailed 8 sprints of 60 seconds with intervals of brisk walking...on my second run already I was getting tired and wondered how the heck I'll get through the rest--thought maybe I'll just walk out the rest...but somehow managed to get going, and before long, I actually finsihed 30.5 mins!! I was sweating well by then, and my heart rate had been b/w 140-160 all along!! Did some weights to follow up (chest lifts 3 sets and incline flyes 3 sets).

Came back up and prepared dinner of my fav. pasta salad and a side of brocoli, and even had less of a portion than I'd planned to!! Oh, to tide me over through the cooking, I had my protein mix and a rice cake (I suspect the protein mix will make weight loss harder, but I think I need it to prevent cramps at least in this initial stage of running).

I am happy today and feeling blessed at all the privileges and support structure I have to make this process do-able. That is, this website, my awesome FS buddies, the great tips on diet/exercise etc,, other's successful models, a good gym right in my bldg, being able to watch fun shows and listen to good music, and get someone telling you what to do as you're running (the C2K podcasts)---it doesn't get better than that!! Now, if only I could meet Mr. Right, fall in love, and live happily ever after--life would be perfect :)

Meals for the day:
Breakfast: go lean cereal with skim milk (3)
lunch: spinach/orange salad with other veggies, croutons (1), and salad dressing (1)
coffee with cream (1)
2 hours later: yesterday's 1/2 whole wheat pizza (4.5)
Snack: 1 large plum (1.5)
Dinner: protein mix with 1/2 cup skim milk (3)
rice cake (1)
steamed brocolli,
whole wheat pasta with chick peas, olive oil, and dried parsley (total 4)

Total points: 20 points

WOW! I am SO excited that you are doing the running program! I may just have to jump on the bandwagon too, because all the cool kids are doing it and I don't want to feel left out ;) I love today's journal - even though it was off to a rocky start...it totally has a happy ending with an amazing workout, awesome food, and a good work/health balance. YAY!!!!!

P.S. (a huge ps) When I posted on the Around the World thread it was after you AND I saw your ticker that says 167.8!!!!!!!!!! Are you being all modest about your weigh in? Don't want to jinx in? You are doing amazing and it is paying off!!!!

well, the reason I didn't make a big deal about the weight loss was coz I really need to see it's not just a one-day thing--if I still see those numbers tomorrow--or less--I can then be excited about it and believe my metabolism seems to have broken that plateau. keeping my fingers crossed (although today has been more carbs than usual, + god forbid, I actually had chick peas!! So, to wait and see what the scale's gonna show tomorrow..regardless, it's about habits and control, and keeping my bargain up for the challenge...

I'm glad you started the c25k program! That first run was harder than I thought it would be, but I felt so proud of myself for completing it! You are doing so well! Isn't this site the best???

Phewww! I'm winded just from reading your journal. All that flourish of non-stop activity wore me out! You were a machine today, girl! A MACHINE! That is so cool that you are starting C25K! My best advice gleaned from my own experience and reiterated by everyone on my C25K forum is this: 1)Don't worry about speed. Building endurance is the key and speed will come later. Going too fast can result in injury. 2) Always have at least one day of rest between runs. It is ok to do other types of exercise on the days off. 3) Stretch! This is so important. Can't stress it enough. Best of luck with the running. Stick with it and you will amaze yourself. And burning 400-500 calories (maybe a little less at the beginning) sure helps with the weight loss. I will save my congrats on your recent weight loss until tomorrow when you make it "official" ;)
