Jornal de rshimoda, 01 fev 23

I've been experimenting with a lot of food, tofu, seitan, nutritional yeast, chia seeds, and more recently I've reintroduced Greek yogurt, canned sardines, chicken breast, and eggs (I was trying to go vegan) - all to get to a level of protein so as not to lose muscle as I lose weight - coupled with better resistance training (transitioning from machines to the squat rack).

Those experiments led to a comfortable, but slower pace of weight loss - and I'm still trying to find a "stable" diet so to speak. I guess my biggest friend in this process is my kitchen scale which helps me to build my food journal, day after day, and have an idea of what's going on and what's helping.

Have you looked into more of a whole food plant based diet? I’d recommend looking up dr greger he has interesting info and lots of videos on it!!

@zoligo I think I saw him in one of those documentaries - but in those they never tell how to get to a macronutrient (in my case - protein) under a certain number of calories - like all the recommendations are quite generic (eat nuts, cruciferous, fruits, beans,...) but nobody tells that you'd have to eat a block of tofu to get the same quantity of proteins of 100gr of chicken breast - and so on... My latest hope of leaving animal protein (or using less of it) lies in seitan - wheat protein - which can be obtained from "washing" flour - I'll try it out for a while

Ah I see I didn’t realize you were focused on protein mostly! I personally use pumpkin seed protein powder in meals to get extra protein without many calories but there’s tons of other options out there, easy to add to meals or just as an after workout drink

I'm on the same mission, trying to get more protein, preferably from plants. I've recently become a huge fan of the Gusta line of seitan sausages and other meat analogs, which are really delicious and great bang for the buck. No weird ingredients and not high calorie, either. They are easy to find in Quebec but I see they are rolling them out across Canada, if you're here. Hemp hearts are also great on salads and avocado toast, protein without the big flavor of nutritional yeast.

Zoloft…have you read The China Study? I think it may fit your thinking.

@StomachMonkeys - Thanks for the article - it's quite large - until you consider how complex nutrition can be. It is a valuable resource and it touches several aspects of what I want to do and things I want to experiment with!

@baggins12 - thanks for the suggestion of Gusta - it's interesting that they have a 0.1gr protein / calorie - which, for a plant based food, is quite good (yeast has 0.16, tofu has 0.12, lentils 0.078, hemp hearts 0.057) and I found some here in Toronto - I'll give it a try to have variety!

I think our food lifestyles are ever evolving as we adjust to our body's needs. Personally, I will never go vegan but on my side of the coin I am constantly changing things as I find what works and what doesn't with my body. Keep up the awesome work as you travel on your journey!!
