As much as I loved my beans and rice, it put me into an immediate stall. I'm having trouble eating all of the food that I'm supposed to eat, but I'll do better this week.

An immediate stall in what sense?

Losing steady, then a spike in weight, now losing again. I can trace it back to the beans and rice. Makes sense for me because when my carbs go up, so do I.

It's easy to overdo it on rice. Bloating is temporary until your body adjusts to the food. I eat that type of meal about 4-5 x/week, and weigh less than 130 lbs. But it took about 4 weeks to get the hang of it. Exercising -- even just a 20 minute walk -- helps with bloating.

Are you doing WFPB, or something else? I'll second JustBananas on the easy to overdo it on grains front. A standard serving is smaller than most people think.. I had to learn for my lunch grain/bean salads to only use a single 1/2 cup serving of cooked grains with two 1/2 cup servings of beans to bump up the protein without overdoing it on calories. Have you tried grains other than rice? Quinoa is higher in protein than rice as are wheat berries, although wheat berries take a lot longer to cook.

Each gram of carb brings with it 3-4 grams of glycogen which is not a bad thing. Not a true fat loss stall since it still comes down to CICO.

Hi writingwyo! IDK what WFPB is as I'm not up on all of the lingo. I'm working with my nutritionist.

Sorry! WFPB = whole foods, plant based. Since you mentioned rice and beans and trying to eat all the food you were supposed to, it sounded like it might be along those lines. What strategy have you worked out with your nutritionist? Glad you're working with one

WFPB = whole food plant based. It means you are buying fresh food and cooking it yourself, and not eating foods out of a wrapper, can, bag, or box. Dried rice and dried beans are considered minimally processed, and fit in the diet perfectly. But you still have to watch portion sizes.

LOLs--got it! I'm definitely not plant based--a carnivore at heart with beef then pork topping the list. My nutritionist has me sticking with chicken (I don't eat seafood). That being said I do enjoy some rice and beans, tofu, meatless meals--usually Italian based. I'm an eclectic cook and make my food from scratch, including pasta. Been known to make my own chipotle bacon, pastrami, smoked turkeys, etc. Probably how I got here in the 1st place! I have to order my dress in July for my daughter's November wedding, so he has me working on detox and weight loss which we both agree is unsustainable and unhealthy for a long period of time and then we'll move onto lifestyle.

Ah! What threw me was your reference to struggling to eat everything. I'm plant based, and I sometimes have a hard time working in everything I think I should for ideal nutrition. Fantastic that you cook so much. (Homemade pasta is AMAZING!) I find that cooking from scratch makes it so much easier to make things tastier and healthier 😊

You are so right! I love fresh and farm raised meat. Unfortunately, not a lot of farms in my neck of the woods. My soon to be son in law gave me some Chinese garlic pickled broccoli stems---AMAZING!!
