A frequent internal dialogue of mine is: "I have just eaten something. I want to eat a hundred more things. I hope I can find a way not to do so."

Today I realized that repetitive statement can be translated as such: "I just ate something. I feel really stressed, and my instinct is to use food to cope with these unpleasant thoughts & feelings. I hope I can figure out how to get through these moments without using food to feel better."

This means if I can develop better stress reduction & coping techniques, I will be less likely to pacify myself with food.
