Today I was a little upset at my weigh in. I really thought the number will be lower. Only lost 0.8 lbs. I'm going to work harder and follow my Atkins diet more closely. I went food shopping and I made sure my refrigerator only has low carbs items. I also decided to stop my anti-depressants because of their negative side effects which include weight gain. I am still going to continue to therapy. Happy Saturday to everyone.

Please talk to your Doctor about stopping meds I did and it took me almost 2 weeks to get back to where I needed to be, it was really bad.

I stopped mine and it was really bad. You need to get off them slow.

This sounds enormously frustrating all the way around. I think I recall you posting before about being concerned about going back to where you were before with the depression. That sounded like a wise concern. You've been there and found it to be awful. Please, please talk to your doctor before you risk the equilibrium you seem to have been able to help establish with the medicine. I want you to be able to lose weight, but first I want to know you're not going to slide into some black hole of misery you don't deserve to suffer in! Please take the best care of yourself, for yourself and your child, so you can make it through all of the other challenges of life, work, parenting, and just getting through the day. Maybe if you let your doctor know what a big priority the weight is for you, he/she will be able to work with you to find a better medical option to meet those needs without sacrificing the needs that the medicine is currently addressing. We all want you to be well!

Gleny slow down and try to relax. Weight loss is a frustrating thing. The past 4 days or so I stayed the same and gained weight and I was eating like I should except that I realized I had too much sodium. Now it looks like I'm getting back on track. Look at your food journals and see if there is anything there to eliminate. You are still losing weight, so keep the faith. Your meds are important for your well being so don't do anything hasty.

I'm bouncing around, too - We just have to keep at it. I was wondering if you had measured yourself? I have found that many times when the scale isn't moving, the inches are going down - they actually never seem to go down together...Just sayin' that it might be a way for you to realize that things are actually working for you. As Warrenwinter said - Be patient, it will come!

Gleny, please make sure you consult your Doctor before stopping your meds. I think depression takes precedence over weight gain. 🙀 🙏 Sarah

All of the above is very sound advice. As a person who has lots of mental illness in their family, I know how important staying on those meds is. If you mess with that chemical imbalance, it means starting all over to get where you are. My son who is bipolar is on some serious medicine and did have a problem with weight. But, he has stuck with his meds and now he has lost all of that weight he gained just eating a steady healthier diet..Stick with what you are doing now.

I agree with Sarah1950, you should consult your doctor before stopping your meds. Some antidepressants aren't meant to be stopped cold turkey but should be weaned to avoid a type of rebound effect that could make you worse. I tried several anti-depressants over the years, (it runs in my family). Never liked the way they worked. I read the book "The Mood Cure," by Julia Ross. I'm sure it wouldn't work for everyone, but it worked for me. My serotonin was low and I learned how to fix the problem with diet and supplements. I am much better now, I am by no means cured, but I stay on top of it and plan proactively to do the things I know that prevent me from getting depressed (my serotonin getting low).

Thank you all for your advice. So I went to see my medicine therapy doctor earlier today and spoke to him about my weight concerns. He actually agreed the med are most to blame. Doxepin is a medication with a large percentile of weigh gain in patients because it causes lack of hunger satisfaction. He decided to keep me on Abilify which is mood stabilizer and clonidine which is sleep medication. These medication have low to none percentile of weigh gain in patients. The anti-depressants medication called doxepin, I'm going to take lower dose for ten days and then stop according to my doctor recommendation.

Sounds like you and your doctor finally got to the root of the problem! Congratulations that is was spotted before years and years on a med doing you no good! Hopefully with your new plan of action, you will see your desired changes! I wish you sunny skies ahead in your journey!

I agree that it is good to take yourself off very slowly and so happy you spoke with your doctor, too. You will stabilize and feel better - we are with you!

Gleny, it made me so happy to read your update. Thank you for taking the time to let us know. It sounds like you are making a balanced, responsible decision, and I'm so excited for you that you have a doctor who takes your concerns seriously and is willing to work with you on addressing all of them. Great job being proactive and in control rather than reactive and out of control! That's the kind of person who can lose weight effectively when the meds stop interfering. Good luck to you!
