So for a year now I've been taking this depression pills called Doxepin/Sinequan. I gain 45 pounds which was contributed by my excessive eating habit. But the pills also have side effects that include drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness, dry mouth, blurred vision, ringing in your ears, nausea, vomiting, constipation, weight gain, sweating, breast swelling (in men or women), decreased sex drive, and/or trouble urinating.
I have had most of those symptoms and now I'm considering to stop the pills. I am losing weigh very slowly. I usually have no problem losing weight fast but lately is like I'm not losing more than a pound a week and I workout a lot. Plus my calorie intake is below 1700. I think the pills are part of my weight problem. But I'm scare my depression can come back worse if stop the pills. But then again most of my depression comes from my low self esteem due to my weight. I can't make a decision yet.

Can you talk to your doctor about it? There are so many options for treating depression, you might be able to try something different.

@Notelaine Yes I'm meeting my doctor on the 10th. I hope we can find a better option.

Hey Gleny, losing weight at a pound a week is absolutely A-Ok...52 lbs in a year!! It takes a while to gain weight and it might take a while to lose all you want, also in my mind there shouldn't be a "finish line" just a slow transition to maintenance, otherwise we will end up in the 95% of people that gain all their diet losses back. Take care!!

Cognitive Behavior Therapy works extremely well for depression, unless you're having psychotic episodes with your depression drug therapy is really over-kill.

Please be careful. Most depression medications need to be tapered down quite slowly as there are some vicious withdrawal symptoms, often involving sleep disruption and mood swings which compound the situation. I worked in a critical care mental health facility and we often had emergency admissions from patients whose primary care physicians just stopped their medications because of undesirable side effects. It is usually safer to go too slowly than to go too quickly, even if it is frustrating, but you can do it.

I don't see anything wrong with losing 1 lb per week, it means that the weight won't come back, plus it's the perfect loss ration that prevents ur skin from sagging since it gives time to get firm again and adjust after the wiehgt loss Ad for the depression, been there, I gained a lot of weight because of it too, s but currently off the pills, there lots of anti-depression food ( walnuts, salmon, turmeric...) look them up and introduce them to your diet! Food is medecine And always keep your eyes on your goals, imagine how high ur self-esteem and confidence will be when you reach your fitness goals! It's totally worth it

I can't possibly know how you feel but can only tell you that life is good and at times, we tend to worry about things we can't change. Maybe this sounds simplistic but a friend fought with bouts of depression and got on a very steady exercise routine; worked out hard every day, especially on those days she felt the depression coming on. She is so much better now and though she still has these bouts, she is no longer on drugs. People are different but I am just giving you a different outlook and maybe help.

Please talk to your doctor about the risks & benefits of stopping the pills. Sometimes your body reacts negatively to abruptly stopping a medicine regime, and he may wean you off with a lower dose,or a milder med. I can understand how you feel, though. Do the risks outweight the benefits of taking these pills, or not. This is the conversation you need to have with your doctor....or at the very least another medical professional.Good luck, my dear.

It's gotta be tough living with a double diagnosis, please do what's best for your mental and physical health. I read the side effects you posted, none of those side effects sound pleasant, in fact they sound quite extreme. Please proceed with caution, if your gut feeling is telling you to change prescriptions... Listen to it and explore alternatives!

I can attest to the horrible withdrawal effects of coming off of an SSRI. I'm still going through them but they are getting better. There are a lot of other options for depression either in medication or therapy/exercise. Talk to your doctor and see what you can do. Good luck!

There are many articles on the internet about antidepressants and weight. Try doing some research to help you. It is possible to lose weight while on medication. You may also want to see a registered dietitian.

So are to deal with depression and the effects of it. You need to talk to your doctor to see if there is something different you can take, if you have that many side effects you should not be taking it.

I agree you have to talk to your doctor . I was offered tablets for depression . But I refused because I watched my "sister" for years become dependant on them . She like you ballooned in size. Chat to him / her , see if there is anything else . Which has less of the side effects . I am a spiritual healer , not saying I can cure you but I will send the healing over long distance . In the hope that just a little is better than none ..xx
