Battling the blues since yesterday afternoon....a lifetime problem, just getting a bit worse with age. Tried the walk, tried the music, tried being social, going to try a swim. At least the water will mask the random tears that insist on running down my face. Oh well, this too shall pass, just sucks at the moment. Managing not to give into the urge to eat junk or binge, but just barely. Doesn't help that despite staying near my RDI and increasing my exercise the scale is going up. Trying to find a local doctor so I can investigate this thyroid thing and the foot pain thing, and the back pain thing. The blues thing I am kinda over trying to do something about, I think it's just my life. Maybe if I change other things, it will get better on it's own. Wish I could enjoy the lovely weather more. Hope everyone is having a successful day!

Thanks pwrestlephoto. I have made HUGE changes in the way I eat. I eat virtually no processed food anymore. Sometimes I can't be bothered entering all the recipe ingredients for my homemade stuff in FS, so I just pick something from FS that is close, so the food I list might not always be accurate, but the calorie count will be close. FS suggested 1900 for RDI, I dropped it to 1700, which is still 500 less than a couple of other sites have suggested. That probably seems high but the one good thing about being heavy is we burn more calories moving around, lol. Anyway, even if I don't lose weight, at least I may get healthier. I am getting more fit, with the biking and the swimming, so maybe I am just gaining muscle and one day soon it will pay off.

I struggle daily with depression (bi-polar disorder) & I also have trouble with emotional eating. I also had a lot of pain in my feet, back & legs until my Dr. prescribed Lyrica. It was prescribed for fibromyalgia but after a week all my foot pain went away. I have gone off the Lyrica because it interacted with my bi-polar meds but the foot pain never came back.

I am sorry to hear that. I too battle with depression and at hard times I like reading the Footprints on the sand poem. I hope you feel better really soon:)

Thanks danasweeney. I will look into Lyrica. It looks like it might even be covered by my drug plan. Thanks for the reminder Roses729... I haven't read that in a while.

depression...you don't have to live with it. it's not part of you, it's an illness. at least if you have it the way i do. i have bipolar disorder. i'm disabled too, from the bipolar disorder. it's not going to get better on its own. wishing you well with that. did you stick to the rdi from fat secret? or did you go to another source? i think i remember you saying you went to another source. which is good. i haven't had internet for a little while, but the last i was on here, you were losing weight, so don't let little gains push you over into the mindset that you are just gaining right now. there will be fluctuations. i am gaining weight, but i'm just trying every day to eat within my rdi and go for a walk. i've been going over my rdi lately. i'm struggling with what do i want to give up forever? and the answer is nothing. ha! you have made a lot of changes and they will stick. do try the measurements. mine were huge, but only i have to know about them. you can just tell us when they go down! good luck and take care, gerri

I take fish oil for my depression. Fish oil also helps with the memory, heart, and joint pain. I could tell the difference in my mood after taking it for just one week. My husband takes it, too. :)

@Gnewfry... some of us have no alternative but to live with our depression. I for one have been coping with it for years.

Hang in there Chris, at times there is no pill that can take the depression away.. I have suffered with it for my entire life- and it sucks..and no, the doctor can not find the medication that helps with it. I am there myself, battling it-- yes it is a war that is going on. I keep reminding myself- this too will pass.. it will get better... Yes I know that I posted the great comments from the church that I recieved, yet it still bothers me bout my wife.. yet that does not help when you are in the dumps and question everything.. It is tempting to say heck with it, and splurge.. but will that solve anything. not really... just makes you feel more guilty after you splurge. Hang in there.. wish I can give you more advice.. if you find a doctor.. ask him bout your vit D level as well..heard that can be a factor in depression.. Yes I am taking it, over the counter Vit D- twice as much as the doctor wants, and it is still not helping me though..

Thanks hoosier436. I keep thinking that my depression should be better, that's what all the ads on tv seem to say, don't they? That you take a pill and you are all better? LOL. Sure and the pill will change the dysfunctional ways of thinking that it's taken a whole life to learn and that are a big part of why I get so sad and blue. I believe medication works for the part of depression that is chemical, but it doesn't do much for the part that is caused by bad habits....if that makes sense? Anyway, testing for vitamin D deficiency is no longer covered by our health insurance, but when it was, mine was low, so I take a supplement. Might try fish oil, it seems expensive until you see the price of fish in the supermarket...then it's cheap. But I have to find the kind that doesn't cause the "fish burps" ewwww. Maybe Costco. And I need to research what types are best.

Oh Gnewfry, I dropped my RDI to 1700 from the 1900 that FS suggested. I hear you about giving up things forever. I think the key is not to give them up but to have them a lot less often and that when you do have them to plan on having them and build them into your RDI. I saw someone on FS mention that they log a food before they eat it. So if I know I am going to eat fast food, I choose what I want to eat and log it first. It helps to see how much of the day's calories one trip to McD's can take up, lol. I am a creature of habit and usually eat the same things anyway, so I am learning the calorie counts and what the daily RDI will allow.

You truly may have a thyroid problem. I had one for years and didn't know it. Then my dr discovered it when he ran labs on me during a hospital stay. I read an article that said take Metamucil everyday and the fiber in it will fill you up, so you are not as hungry
