A little off-topic but... this is an awfully emotional day. As I mentioned in my last few posts, I went into Manhattan on Friday night to see American Idiot. The show was completely awesome and amazing, I actually got to hang out at the stage door after the show meet the cast briefly and get my program signed. So amazing.

Of course, it's a tough time of year to be in the city, or even in NJ (where I live.) I moved out here post 9/11 so I know this area best after 9/11. It's always a very emotional time out here. So many friends still have such vivid memories of the smoke and fire of that day. So many people know someone who died in some removed way. Nine years ago, I was in undergrad and it was a beautiful clear but cold morning and I remember being exhausted and driving to class only to find out after my morning class what had happened. This morning, like so years since that day it was clear and cool. Driving to my Saturday morning class listening to the NY radio tributes was just surreal and overwhelming. I've been in tears several times today, it's something that I've just accepted. Part of this process is feeling the feelings, no matter how painful.

Even on a sad anniversary like this.

As I mentioned above I had class this morning which was tough to get to since I didn't get to bed until after 3. I went to class on 3 hours of sleep and finally succumbed to napping when I got home this afternoon. I'm probably not going to work out today but I feel pretty good for the amount of walking I did yesterday (over 18,000 steps from the morning until I got home last night.)

Seriously though, 9 years ago today a lot of people went to work like a normal day and never came home. Tell someone you love them today, hug someone you care about, you never know what might happen.

Affirmations for today:
1) It's okay to cry, particularly on sad days like this.

2) It's better to feel the feelings than try to block them out.

Thanks for reminding us that we need to keep that line of comunication open about how we feel about each other. I am sending you a hug just because. Have a better day tomorrow!

Hi Sue, surreal was the feeling we had over here on the West Coast as well, as our hearts stopped that morning and never quite beat the same again. Thanks for sharing your perspective as we must never forget those who lost their lives and gave their lives. I hope you can get some good rest and feel energized again very soon. TOWANDA!!!

Thanks guys, it's a sad day no matter where you are but it's just so much more intense around here. It's now commonplace to see armed military in fatigues with giant guns in Penn Station. It freaked me out when I moved out here but it's so common, I don't even blink at it. The only reason I even noticed it on Friday is because I was hyper aware with all the recent controversy. I kind of know people who died in the towers. It's removed, like a friend's parent, someone I kinda knew who was a few years ahead of me, etc. I know someone who was in the towers and made it out, so many weren't that lucky.
