So I went to happy hour after work tonight. Calories were of course much higher due to the food/alcohol. I'm guessing here but I think I'm more like 1900-2000 for the day (although you know that thing where you go somewhere and have to randomly guess). The wings I had were grilled so that probably helps a little.

Did end up walking around shopping a little after. I got a new cookbook in the bargain section at Barnes & Noble - it was not only on sale but it's for a slow cooker and includes actual calorie/nutritional info in the receipes. (We all know how rare that is.) I'm going to have limited time when class starts again so I'm hoping this helps give me some new ideas (a lot of the stuff in it looked really good - soups and such which I love in the fall/winter.)

I felt kinda gross when I got home, I'm not sure if it's the massive pile of calories I consumed or watching my friend get a giant pixie stick. (Seriously, the thing was as long as my arm. Why any grown woman would want to eat a giant tube of sugar and chemicals is beyond me) So I felt like I needed to do SOMETHING. Got on the wii, did a little of the running and realized that I really couldn't push myself too much today so I switched over to yoga just to calm down/stretch.

Somehow my little piggy bank turned bronze. Yes, I've had wii fit plus for like six months and it took THAT long for my piggy bank to turn (although honestly, it's not something I even work out on every week even these days.) Nice and calm now which is what I needed (I had nervous energy, probably the caffeine at Starbucks) but man does my core hurt.

It's a struggle sometimes, because I did go to extremes in the past there's a part of my brain that goes "OMG! Too many calories! Go work out for an hour and don't eat tomorrow!" Thankfully, there's also a calmer side that's like "Chill, it's fine, you're still burning way more than this, take it easy and focus." I got into meditation/yoga as part of recovery because I needed to be mindful (it helped me deal with the underlying anxiety) so I kept repeating to myself things like "I am without judgement" and "I am exactly where I am supposed to be at this point" to myself mentally during it. Sometimes you have to drill the positive stuff in. :)

I think so many things can be tracked back to mindfulness. I really can't speak enough about how mindfulness/meditation helped change my life, that's what finally helped me get over the depression and anxiety I had for years. I probably come off as very new-age at times but behavioral therapy techniques are probably the ONLY thing that ever worked for me. (And yes, I've had a lot of therapy over the years, lol)

I love when cook books have calorie counts! Makes life so much easier. I think you have a very good attitude. It's too bad when people on here are like "omg, I ate 1900 calories, I'll be fat forever." usually it does more good than harm to have a slightly higher day, which clearly is still way under your calories burned still. Post some recipes if they come out well!

I probably could eat 2000 a day and lose at this point. I think something like generally living for me (particularly at this weight) is somewhere around 2900. Honestly, unless I eat a lot of crap, I find it REALLY hard to go over 2000. Not that it hasn't happened, but it's just not something I generally do I've actually wondered lately if I should be aiming for something higher than the 1400-1600 I do most days.

You probably should. Or you should try it and see what happens. I made it my goal to lose 1-2 pounds a week eating as much as I could. I definitely lost weight close to if not over 2000 calories at first. I've raised my calories to 1900 now and I think I have still lost weight (scale has said 179 a few times now). I exercise a lot! You'll probably find you need to lower your calories at some point as you lose weight and it's good to have somewhere to go.

I know, I'm all over the map calorie wise and should probably be somewhat consistent but I'm trying to figure out what my body needs and when and then actually listen and I don't think my body entirely knows either, lol. Seriously, a decade of me over or underfeeding myself dramatically screwed up a lot of the signals and they're just starting to come back now. I think my body's still adjusting to a lot of things. I'm trying to get some kind of predictable hunger signals going (which seems to be happening slowly). I still don't consider myself "active" but maybe I'm wrong with that.

One or two days of 2000 calories are nothing to sweat about. Just get back with the program.
