Well still not eating the BEST but at least I haven't gained anything.

cross-posted from my blog:

What kind of fat person am I?
fictional character John Bender (from The Breakfast Club):

...there are two kinds of fat people: there's fat people that were born to be fat, and there's fat people that were once thin but became fat... so when you look at 'em you can sorta see that thin person inside.

So yesterday I got together with an old friend I haven't seen since elementary school.

Yeah, GRADE 6!

So the last time we saw each other, we were 11 years old.

I have my old "School day Treasures" book in my hand but my Mom didn't record my height and weight for grades 2 through 6. However, in grade 7 I was listed as 74 lbs (not sure of my height but in Grade 8 I was 4 ft 11).

So here we were with me 202 lbs later and almost 27 years older.

She said she would have recognized me because my face is the same.

I agree with that - even looking at a baby pic of me under the age of 1 - my face and expression seem the same, just smaller, but distinctly recognizable.

So am I someone who was meant to be fat or is it that people still see the thin person inside of me?

I use to think that I was meant to be fat. Now I'm not so sure. I think it had to do with my family being large. I also did not know what food is and how our body uses it. I just eat because it was always the thing to do. Oh its so and so's birthday. Lets go to dinner. We are ordering Pizza great. You just graduated well lets celebrate with food. The of course getting married centers around food. Special occasion = food. Drive to work = food. I hope you get my point. Everything in life seems to center around food. So if we are always blasted with it from early childhood then what happens. You grow up fat. You adult life it fat. Until you either get sick (diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, etc.) or educate yourself. I realized months ago that education was the key. Yea you can say "what about that 120 pound 30 year old that grew up the same way as I did, Food Central. Well every body is different. It doesn't mean that we are born to be fat just because our parents are fat or just because you were a chunky child. Some people just need to educate themselves about food and know what they can and can't eat. It also doesn't mean that you have to weigh a certain amount. I am just looking for my bodies idea weight. If that is not the 150 pounds I think it is then so be it. As long as I am healthy and feel good. That is the true key. So if you think that you were meant to be fat then I challenge you to look deep inside yourself. I bet there is a true you in there somewhere.

exactly! though in my house wheneer something bad happened, I was given sweets to "get happy". But my metabolism didn't slow down until I was almost 30 so I thought I could eat anything.

Great reference with the Breakfast Club! :) But all kidding aside, I really believe that we cannot achieve that which we cannot visualize. And I'm not talking hoo-doo-voo-doo BS like that book, The Secret, where they tell people you create your own existence and can just about think things into your life. (uh...starving people in Africa probably think positive thoughts about food all the time and they're still starving!) I mean that if WE don't truly believe something CAN happen, if we can't picture our lives a certain way, we will NEVER achieve it. At least, that's how I view it. So I hope your blog was more of an internal dialogue sort of bantering and that you really CAN see the thin person inside of you. ---------------Oh! I just read your response to bump98 and it made me wonder...have you had your thyroid checked? I finally did that after years of not being able to lose more than a pound or two over a few weeks when trying to "diet" and then giving up in frustration. I went to a naturopathic physician (here in AZ must reach tougher standards than most states) who tested me. Old standards for TSH levels were .5 - 5.0 but some of the newer suggested levels are closer to .3 - 3.0. My TSH level came back at 3.3 - BARELY over the newer standards (which aren't even accepted as "standards" yet by most endos/physicians), but I asked her if she'd treat me anyway. I'd been dieting and working out (hard - and nearly an hour a day, 6 days a week) for 20 weeks(started Dec. 29th) at that point and lost 19 lbs. I've lost 19 more lbs since May 18th - not even 11 1/2 weeks ago. BIG difference when you're dieting and exercising and actually SEEING results. So when you said "my metabolism didn't slow down until I was almost 30", it makes me wonder if you may have a thyroid issue. Because the truth is, all you need to do is to eat 100 calories a day more than your body burns and you'll end up with 50 lbs of excess weight in 5 years time. And we all know how quickly 5 years flies by. Something to check on if you haven't already. And if you have, or do get it checked, I strongly recommend you get a copy of the blood work - not just accept that your "blood work is normal" or your "thyroid is normal".

Hey just wanted to add my two cents.... I don't think anyone is BORN to be fat. YES there are people who are bigger bones (I myself am) I will NEVER be a petite little flower. BUT how much weight you put on those bones is a different story. I come from a family of "everyone carries extra weight". And I was raised with the CLEAN YOUR PLATE parents. NOT until now, as an adult do I realize....wow this doesn't have to be this way! I WILL always be a larger frame woman.....but how much EXTRA weight I carry on my frame is up to me. I TOTALLY agree with Redwine.....you need to be able to SEE yourself doing this. There was a quote, I cannot think of who said it, but it went something to the point of ....whether you think you CAN or you CANNOT-your right!!! In other words if you THINK you can't.....you can't! And vise versa. Anything is possible!!! :)

I agree with Klannoye's quote - whether you think you can, or you think you cannot, you're right! Amazing quotation there! :)

It was Henry Ford who said it....that's who!!! :)
