I don't know if I mentioned this but I rolled my ankle this weekend during my hike.

I've had issues with my ankle rolling for over 10 years. Any little tiny uneven surface can cause it to turn in and make me fall. We're talking little cracks in the sidewalk or tiny little pebbles...anything!

I've just ignored the issue and lived with it for so long I've become known for it...friends and family joke about it "Sharon fell again because of her tiny little weak ankles" and the newest thing is calling me Mr. Glass.

I do think it's funny and often join in but the reality is...maybe if I seek help I can get help with this. I will be old some day and I can't keep falling every couple months!

Fingers crossed and prayers appreciated that Kaiser honors my request to be referred to a specialist without any issues and that I do get some help!

Have them check for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. A lot of people who fall frequently have it and go undiagnosed for years. It is a relatively rare connective tissue disease which my husband, son, daughter-in-law and sister-in-law all have. For all of them, it involves constant pain, though.

I prayed and will continue to pray for you, Sharon. Thanks for the reminder to get back into my routine for the same problem.

Hey I feel you. I am dyspraxic and I hurt myself all the time. Fall, cut myself, hit walls, getting bruises all the way. You have all my support!

I've always had "weak ankles" too. Never could ice skate very well (although roller skating was fine), and I also fall over sidewalk cracks and pebbles. I looked up "Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome" (https://patientsrising.org/ehlers-danlos-syndrome-diagnosis/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1Z-WoqzB4gIVE6aaCh0jUQyDEAAYAiAAEgJtovD_BwE). It has many more symptoms than just "weak ankles." Still, I suggest that everyone check out the website, because it can go undiagnosed for decades.

To help with the hiking issue, buy hiking BOOTS, not shoes. The come up above your ankles for added support. There is also K-tape that you can buy at most sporting goods stores that gives support to knee, ankle, wrist— whatever. Really does work. Just go in and ask for support tape. It’s used by athletes of every kind.
