Today and yesterday has been a bad day as I was thinking about my mother who passed in February her birthday is the 17th of this month and for some reason I just lost it today I already know that I am an emotional eater I always have been and I have tried I just don't know so because I over ate these past couple of weeks and gained weight I am now punishing myself and going on a broth diet for a few day to teach myself a lesson that I do not want to do often. I know this road is a hard road and I have been lazy these couple of weeks and made excuse after excuse but today that stops!

I'm all for the occasional liquid IF if that's what you feel your body wants. It reads as if this is a punishment. Hope not.

Yes, please never punish yourself. If you are not kind to yourself, no one else will. Just take the liquid diet as a catching up exercise and a challenge to yourself! Give yourself a non- food treat when you get through it. Maybe a nice message, or a day of no house work, but pampering yourself, doing what you want.

April beginning was my father's first birthday after his passing. So, I understand how you feel. It can knock you off track, for a bit.

I'm right there with you! My fathers birthday is today and in just a little longer than a month it will be the anniversary of his passing. He was 42...I'm 5 years older than my dad as of the end of May this year. It definitely brings on the binges. April and May are bad months for me!

A nice message is always good, but a massage sounds delightful! What's done is done, and all you can do is keep moving forward. Emotional eating happens to everyone now and then. Recognizing it for what it is shows an level of awareness that many people simply don't have. A broth fast can be good for you physically (it helps flush the system), but for I urge you not to think of it as punishment. You are taking charge and making a choice to bring your intake back into balance. If you track what you eat (even the things you aren't proud of) it gives you the information you need to make the healthy choices to keep on goal. Knowledge is power.

Tineyjo, I've been through what you're experiencing. Anniversaries are difficult for many of us, but the first year after a loved one's death is full of emotional moments. Those special days -- birthdays, holidays -- are particularly painful. I agree that "punishment" should be as far from your mind as possible. Life is change. When the change is "loss," sorrow is unavoidable and necessary to the healing process. The broth fast can be a piece in that healing -- soothing, easy. Be gentle with yourself, Tineyjo!
