And with a fizzle the oatmeal experiment is over. After doc appt re CIMT labs today (day before she sent over results and recommendations) she has agreed to delay statins and we are going to try berberine, red yeast rice and one other supplement (forgot which) until labs in august. She thinks my labs next month will be screwed up due to the daily oatmeal implementation and was a little aghast that that was my plan to try and get LDL numbers down. Also discovered that i have access to a nutritionist as much as desired at no additional charge. I had forgotten they had a nutritionist on staff. So am waiting for that initial appt. Back to higher protein lower carbs i go. SMASH fish was recommended but i detest literally every type of SMASH fish. I feel moderately better. Interestingly she was not surprised that i was struggling with the scale incorporating oatmeal (carbs) vs protein. She said body converts that to sugar pretty quickly which totally made sense to me. It is NOT always as easy as CICO but sure wish it was. Onward and upward🫣

I hope and pray that you get the results you want. I'm on statins but I only take it once daily. my former Dr had prescribed them daily but it caused leg muscle cramping so decided (with my persisting) to only take it once a week. numbers are okay. I also have other challenges but God takes care of me.

As you know, I count macros as well as calories. I always wondered when you were eating so much oatmeal about the carbs converting into sugar. I limit myself to oatmeal once or twice a week and I try to eat it for fuel in my heavy workout days. I think a nutritionist will help you alot. I think as you research and get additional help you will get this under control. 🩷

Great about the nutritionist. As for food, everything in moderation (of course, I don't always practice what I preach 🙃).

Shirfleur 1, isn't that the truth lol 😆🤷 and so much easier to look at someone else's issues and give good advice and so much harder to look at your going good advice and follow it. I'm all the time advising people not to worry about a pound here or there not to freak out to keep following your plan do good follow good practices and to let the system take its place cognitively I understand this is how it works I've experienced it and I know that it will work out. But oh my goodness I see that point six increase one day to the next and I freak out do I know that it all works out and that the next day it will be gone be gone of course I do but my heart still does go pitter patter every time it happens, yup. Is it completely silly and stupid, yup it's so silly of me 😆.

My daughter was horrified by her lab results several months ago, with many elevated, a1C was 8.9 her first indication of developing T2DM. She took fast and serious action with diet and many of the supplements you mentioned. Three months later her metabolism markers were so much better that her PCP could not believe it.

I've been eating one Brazil nut a day and just learned today that there's been studies that they can help reduce cholesterol. Not saying that that alone will bring your cholesterol down, but thought I'd mention it if you didn't already know.

Waffle-one brazil nut a day!! Thats awesome!

I will often eat other nuts, if I can fit them in calorie wise, but I've read that you shouldn't eat more than 1-3 Brazil nuts a day because more than that might get you too much selenium.

Only one to three Brazil nuts at a time that's so sad I did not know it had such a small limit those are one of my favorite nuts. Not that I get to eat them very often because they're kind of pricey those in macadamia nuts that is are totally one of my favorites. I'm sorry for my ignorance but what is selenium and why is it dangerous?

Leah, i totally agree with you. I LOVE macadamia nuts too.

"Selenium is a mineral you can consume by eating many foods. It can help support the healthy functioning of your body, including your metabolism, immune system, and thyroid function." Copied from article on healthline.

Yearofhealth2023, when I 1st started taking statins I felt a little bit tired, and also the doc wanted to check liver enzymes to make sure the liver was not negatively impacted. Mine were OK. I take 4000 mg of CoQ-10 every day, and that is probably more than most people. Frankly, that is not due to the statins. But, they are for my heart, along with L-Arginine, and L-Citrulline. The L-Arginine and L-Citrulline are both used by the body for production of nitric oxide which is needed by the heart. Besides my chronic AFIB, I had a heart arterie (distally) that occluded, and then generated some good colateral circulation on its own several years ago. The L-Arginine and L-Citrulline were recommended by my doc for me, though obviously not prescribed. Best to you in all of this.

You are looking great!! I just got my labs back and I had incorporated Fish oil in my diet as that was recommended to help with my night sweats. All my numbers improved!
