I use it too, the study that was done gave a large amount to rats and it had some bad side effects. A little a day has been proven ok in healthy humans. I wouldn’t worry about this one.

I use stevia, the drops. Much better health wise. The cleanest of all fake sugars

Oh monkfruit is also really good.

WHO statement was in regard to all artificial sweeteners...and the statement was reworded mercilessly. Here is the actual statement: "While results of randomized controlled trials have generally suggested non-sugar sweeteners may have little impact on glucose metabolism and result in lower body weight when coupled with energy restriction in the short-term, there is no clear consensus on whether non-sugar sweeteners are effective for long-term weight loss or maintenance, or if they are linked to other long-term health effects at intakes within the ADI." In regard to weight loss they are saying: hey just switching to an artificial sweetener is not going to help with weight loss. We all knew that, that's why we count calories (or OMAD) and exercise. In regard to health effects, I think there are not enough long term studies to say anything yet. But there is some evidence that negative effects might exist. I myself still use artificial sweeteners, but try to limit how much I use them.

I use stevia also, but sparingly. Mostly just when I make a batch of matcha. Food tastes better when we allow ourselves to actually taste the food itself. We have so many taste buds that we don't do our senses justice if we fail to fully explore them. That being said, if you want something to cover up the powdery goodness of pea protein shakes I totally get it.

Stevia is a herb. It tastes sweet. So lumping that in with Aspartame and Saccharine are we?

@tash23 No sucralose or aspertame. I only use stevia.

WHO is recommending to switch to unsweetened foods and drinks. They are absolutely not saying to have a regular Pepsi instead of a diet Pepsi, and that’s not clear in this meme.

I don’t use any of the artificial sweeteners. They're in all the protein bars and shakes, too, and they all have that chemical aftertaste that I dislike.

Chemical Aftertaste was my nickname in college.

I actually seen a piece on this. Don’t know how true it is but it said that it tricks your body into think you ate something sweet so it preps insulin only to find out your blood sugar increase is not by much and it puts people into hypoglycemia, and they eventually your body will learn to ignore the sweet taste and not respond correctly to when you actually eat sweets which then could put you into a diabetic state. But since I can’t stand the taste of these things I didn’t dig into it much. So don’t flame me 😂

Actually anything artificial is not good. Try honey or natural sweeteners found in fruits. Everything is to be used in moderation. 😎
